Top 5 of the Last 5 – Comedy.

By billyG

Part three of six. As promised, I’m back with a new list. Below is a list of the top five movies from the past five years (in my opinion). Be sure to check back every Friday for the next three weeks to see my picks for the best of the best. Who’s ready to laugh?!?
__________

Knocked Up. (2007)

This movie gave hope to overweight, out of work, illegal immigrant Canadian potheads everywhere. Thank you Seth Rogan. Thank you.

Favorite quote: “Was your vagina drunk?”
_____

Superbad. (2007)

Ah high school. How sweet it was. Parties. Awkward moments with girls. Thinking alcohol was the nectar of the Gods (which it is). Friendships that trump everything else going on. Oh I miss it so.

Favorite quote: “She wants to fuck me! She wants my dick in and around her mouth!”
_____

Old School. (2003)

I remember seeing this movie in a theater that had about 6 people in it with Justin Dubose. Oh how we laughed and laughed. The movie cut off half-way through because of an ice storm. After some instant panic, a bit of flirting with 2 girls from Pflugerville, and a trip back to the concession stand, the hilarity was back on. Seriously, Vince Vaughn, Will Farrell, Luke Wilson, that old guy that played Blue, Snoop Dogg, late night streaking through the quad and into the gymnasium, KY wrestling. What more could you ask for? This DVD will probably be in my player for the next week and a half.

Favorite quote: “True love is hard to find. Sometimes you think you have true love and then you catch the early flight home from San Diego and a couple of nude people jump out of your bathroom blindfolded like a goddamn magic show ready to double team your girlfriend…”
_____

Bad Santa. (2003)

OK so TBS probably won’t being having a 24 hour marathon of this like they do of A Christmas Story every year, but that won’t stop me from watching it for 24 hrs straight come December 25th.

Favorite quote: “Fuck me, Santa! Fuck me, Santa! Fuck me, Santa!”
_____

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. (2004)

Hands down, the most quotable movie in history. Period.

Favorite quote: “Dorothy Mantooth is a Saint!”
_____

Definitely some other movies that could have made the list had I chosen more than 5. But I didn’t. But if I did they would be Wedding Crashers, Just Friends, 40 Year Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, blah blah blah. If you agree with any of my choices, feel free to leave a comment. Not sure what I’ll post next week. Could be SciFi, maybe Documentary. Who knows?

    First comment woot!

I agree with 4 out of your 5 choices. For some reason I never got into ‘Bad Santa’, but it could be because I have been watching the cable version with all of the explatives deleted. Maybe to capture the true essence of the movie I need to rent the DVD.

I don’t usually see movies at the theaters more that one time, but ‘Superbad’ was the exception. I saw it 3 times, and it was funnier each time I saw it because I caught parts of the movie where I had been laughing my butt off in previous times. The first time I saw it, I didn’t hear when Evan and Seth were looking at clothes, and Seth was wearing really tight jeans and they were talking about their bulge… Seth said something like “Ball-Dick-Ball” to which Evan replied, “Yeah, kinda like a division symbol”…. I almost fell out of my seat.

I would probably fill that 5th spot with one of your ‘alternatives’ like ‘40 Year Old Virgin’ or maybe even ‘Grandma’s Boy’. I guess I’ve enjoyed Jonah Hill’s performances in his movies even when he had small roles.

I’m going to have to say that Knocked Up blew. I didn’t have one laugh in the first 45 minutes of the movie, kept waiting for it to get better and turned it off when it didn’t deliver. Seth Rogan is adorable, sure, but I don’t believe for one minute that a girl as “hot” as Heigel would ever sleep with him. She wasn’t THAT drunk ok? I do like the way they edited out her hail damage, too bad they couldn’t edit in some kind of likable personality for her. Maybe then this movie would have not had to rest squarely on Seth’s big pimpled back.
