Sometimes we just need someone to show us what we can’t see ourselves. Then we’re changed forever.

So the “update” is still in progress. Should be done by the end of today. Anyway, this may be pointless because Zach and Miri Make A Porno has been in theaters for over a month already and is about to be pulled, but whatevs.

I saw Zach and Miri on opening night, so this review may end up being pretty short. Anyway, Zach (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) are platonic friends living together and trying to get by. They’ve been friends since elementary school, but have never considered each other more. As their financial troubles begin to snowball, they decide to make a porno to resolve their problems once and for all. However, during the process of making the movie, Zach and MIri find their feelings for one another are changing.

Zach and Miri did not feel like your normal Kevin Smith movie. I mean this in a good way. Other than the fact that it featured appearances by Jason Mewes, Jeff Anderson, and a very disgusting scene involving shit, it felt like it could have been another Apatow production. This isn’t a knock to Kevin Smith, but it didn’t have the same “indie/low budget” feel like his other films have.

Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks on screen chemistry was great. It wasn’t over the top with cheese or lame unbelievable dialogue. It was refreshing to see their relationship come full circle from being completely platonic friends, to having sex on camera, to finding each other. Seth Rogen plays his normal character. Vulgar but lovable. Elizabeth Banks shows that she can carry herself as a leading lady and has a great onscreen charisma.

I’m not the hugest fan of Kevin Smith. I’ve never even seen Clerks, all of Dogma, Mallrats, or Clerks II. However, Chasing Amy is the shit. And so is Zach and Miri Make a Porno.

9 out of 10.
